Overview

Sacit Karamürsel, born in Amasya in 1962, completed his education at Galatasaray High School in 1977 and Ankara Science High School in 1980. He achieved the title of individual winner in TÜBİTAK Türkiye’s "Inter-High School Physics Competition." Graduating from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1986, he furthered his specialization in physiology in 1988, earning his associate professorship in 1992 and professorship in 1999. From 1990 to 1996, he conducted research at the University of California, San Diego, collaborating on numerous studies with European countries.

Serving as a founding member of various associations including IU Electro-Neuro-Physiology Research and Application Center, Atherosclerosis Association, Medical Communication and Research Association, and Brain Research Association, he held leadership roles at different intervals. He served two terms totaling 8 years as a member of the COST-BMBS Domain Committee. Following more than 11 years as the head of the Physiology Department at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, he assumed the position of Dean at Istinye University Faculty of Medicine, also overseeing the Physiology and Neuroscience Departments and directing the Neurological Sciences Research and Application Center. Since 2019, he has been a faculty member at Koç University School of Medicine.
