BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES

 

 

During Rheumatology Elective, 5th year students attend all routine activities of the Department.

 

Student activities are supervised by the tutors. There are no nightshifts during the elective.

 

On Wednesday students attend weekly Internal Medicine Seminer at 12.00-13.00, and case meeting with Radiology and Pulmonology at 13.00-14.00 pm. During Thursday at 12.00-13.00 pm they attend internal medicine article discussions.

 

Students attend research activities during the elective. They are encouraged to join a research
project that they are interested and carry on after the elective.

 

Students daily present a given at least one case and discuss physical examination, laboratory results, differential diagnosis and treatment.

 

 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

 

 

At the end of the elective a 5th year old student will,

 

 

 

to be able to make differential diagnosis according to history and physical examination.

 

 

to be able to order necessary laboratory tests

 

 

to be able to read joint X-Ray graphs

 

 

to be able to follow in patient daily

 

 

to be able to know basic treatment strategies for common rheumatological diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis

 

 

 

ASSESSMENT OR EVALUATION

 

 

Student’s knowledge, competencies including patient care, communication, professionalism and
practice-based learning are observed throughout the elective. Although not graded, feedback on
these competencies are provided continuously.

 

 

“KUSOM Clinical Performance Evaluation Form” is used for reporting.
