BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES:
During Radiology Elective, 5th year students attend all routine diagnostic activities of the Department. Interventioanal radiology can be visited by request.
Student activities are supervised by the tutors. Elective of one-month period will include, one week of Abdominal Radiology, one week of Neuroradiology, one week of Thoracic Radiology, and one week of Musculoskeletal Radiology and others.
During the rotations, students will have the opportunity to attend multi-disciplinary department meetings on every weekday (Table-1).
The daily pracitce start every day at 08:00
There are no nightshifts during the elective.
During rotations, students will shadow staff radiologists and discuss cases.
According to their willingness, students may get involved with research activities during the elective.
They can join the ongoing research studies and/or start their own project in the clinic that they are interested in. The research may continue after end of the elective.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the elective, a 5th-year medical student will;
Understand the radiographic anatomy and elementary radiographic lesions especially in chest and musculoskeletal imaging
Get acquainted with the cross sectional imaging features of the most common diseases in specific subspecialty areas.
Choose the most appropriate imaging method for specific clinical indications. Impact of radiologic imaging on public health with particular emphasis on ionizing radiation.
Safe and rational use of contrast media. Learn how to communicate with radiologists as a nonradiologist physician (particularly providing clinical information essential for proper evaluation and interpretation of imaging findings).
ASSESSMENT OR EVALUATION:
Student’s knowledge, competencies including patient communication, professionalism, and
practice-based learning are observed throughout the elective. Although not graded, feedback on
these competencies is provided continuously.
Students will present a topic and a related case during the elective.
“KUSOM Clinical Performance Evaluation Form” is used for reporting.
